The United
States is placed second in total number of medals in Beach Volleyball at the
Olympics, with a total of 9 medals against 11 by Brazil. However, the United
States is the greatest champions, with 6 gold medals in 10 possible. In
London's 2012, the United States was the country with the best performance,
with 2 medals, one gold and one silver, both obtained in the women's
tournament. MEN. The United States competed with two very strong doubles, one
formed by the Olympic champions of 2008, Dalhausser-Rogers, and the other by
Gibb-Rosenthal. The double Dallhausser- Rogers was defeated by Italian duo
Lupo-Nicolai in the round of 16, while the double Gibb-Rosenthal was defeated
in the quarter-finals for the Latvian duo formed by Plavins-Smedins. The results
were disappointing for the Americans. WOMEN. The United States dominated the
women's tournament and won the gold and silver medals, its best performance in
the Olympic history. The duo of Kerri Walsh Jennings and Misty May-Treanor
confirmed his favoritism and won its third consecutive Olympic gold medal. The
silver medal was conquered by April Ross and Jennifer Kessy.
