In 2008, in Beijing, the USA shooters won 6 medals, 2 gold. MEN. The USA men had a discreet performance, with only 2 medals, 1 gold and 1 bronze, unlike 2008, when they won 4 medals, 2 gold. Vincent Hancock won the Skeet event again, like in 2008, while the excellent Matthew Emmons secured a bronze medal in the rifle 3 positions event. The United States won a total of 6 medals, 3 gold, 1 silver and 2 bronze in the gymnastics competitions of the London's 2012 Olympic Games. The USA gymnasts were below expectations, but They still had an excellent result. Their women's team was responsible for all USA's 3 Gold medals and 5 out 6 total medals. MEN. The United States had high hopes of success in men's competitions, but eventually their gymnasts failed widely. After a good start, USA gymnasts committed many errors in the finals and their team, candidate for a medal, didn't get the podium. USA gymnasts repeated their errors in individual finals and they won only a single medal, bronze in the all-around competition, by Danell Leyva, bronze medalist. In the apparatus finals USA gymnasts didn't win any medal. John Orozco was the big disappointment of the team. The young gymnast made mistakes in crucial moments after being among the top three in the world at the classification stage. Still, the U.S. has a promising future with their male gymnasts. FEMALE. The United States won a total of 5 medals, 3 gold, but eventually were surpassed in total medals by Russia, which reached the podium in 6 occasions, despite the fact Russian gymnasts won only one gold medal. The U.S. team dominated largely the team competition and US presented an exceptional showing in floor exercises in the last rotation, while the Russian gymnasts fell literally on the floor. In the all-around final U.S. secured the gold medal again, this time with Gabrielle Douglas, who overcame the nervous Russian gymnast Viktoriya Komova. Alexandra Raisman achieved fourth place, despite She having scored the same points that the Russian bronze medalist, Aliya Mustafina. The tiebreaker rules helped the Russian gymnast. In the apparatus finals, Alexandra Raisman was the main USA gymnast, winning gold medal in the floor exercises and the bronze medal on balance beam, in this case after a protest by her coaches. However, the biggest disappointment to the USA team ocurred in the vault final. The overwhleming favourite, McKayla Maroney, fell in her second vault and lost the Gold medal by 0.109 points. Despite her mistake, Maroney still won the Silver medal.
